Prescription and access to measures which contribute to minimizing the risk of infection and treatment requirements :
We are members of the PPCQR (Pomology Production Club for the Quebec Region), a bipartite program of the MAFFQ (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec), as well as an agricultural producer.
With concern for an excellent yield, and for the purpose of producing first-quality fruit, members of the PPCQR strive to use the best cultural methods of production. These methods are combined with the latest innovations for detecting insects and disease.
The evolution of the insect population is evaluated by using different types of traps. In addition, meteorological conditions favorable to the formation of fungal diseases are registered at local or regional stations. This allows for an evaluation of the presence and severity of infections. Thus, the pomologist, member of the PPCQR, treats the fruit only as needed and does not follow a calendar of traditional prevention - a plus for the environment.
Pesticides are no longer the only tool used to control insects and diseases which deteriorate the quality of the fruit. It is becoming more frequent to integrate them with other methods of control. If pesticides remain essential for the efficient control of insects and the diseases of today, they are used for specific treatments, but only after intensive tests have been effected with respect to the security and health of the consumer.
